AASCO Motorsports Ready For South Florida

ANAHEIM, CALIF., February 25, 2004 The transporter left AASCO Motorsports' Southern California shop on Sunday for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series' Grand Prix of Miami. It was the fifth trek to Florida this year for the Dennis Aase-owned team. The first two round-trips took them to Daytona International Speedway for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. There, in the season-opening race, two early incidents hampered the two-car program's endeavor to win the race. However, after a Herculean effort by the crew, both team cars crossed the finish line. Saturday's Grand Prix of Miami at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) is round-two of the 12-race schedule and the team is continuing to work diligently to improve its results. With that in mind, Aase opted to focus on one car this weekend, the No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Craig Stanton (Long Beach, Calif.) and David Murry (Cumming, Ga.) for the two-hour and 45-minute race. The track has been good to the AASCO drivers; Stanton finished fourth here last year in GT class and Murry has two top-ten finishes in his only two starts at HMS. Dennis Aase, team owner/manager: "One of the most heated classes is going to be this class, Super Grand Sport, every weekend. Every guy on this team can't wait to get back to the track to compete. Time constraints on these weekends are so tight that you can't go back to the garage to make changes. You have to be ready each session to get the most out of it. We focused on the No. 16 for the race in Miami and we worked on several items to diminish the turn-around time between changes. The whole idea is how good can you be before you start the race? It is our goal to walk out prepared. What happens after that we can't necessarily control. We are very focused on putting our best foot forward at Homestead. We are looking down the road and seeing this as a whole championship season. That is our goal. That is what we are working towards.” Craig Stanton: "It's a race for the team. They came together and prepared a really, really good race car for David and me. Dennis is confident and that inspires confidence in the whole team. The guys did such a fabulous job at Daytona in bringing us back into the fight that we have some momentum coming from there. I like Homestead; it's always been a great track for me. David has a lot of experience there as well. I think the fans are going to get a great show. The SGS class is really competitive and should provide some great racing for the fans in the stands and at home watching on the SPEED Channel.” David Murry: "I am really looking forward to Homestead. We had a tough start to the Daytona 24 Hour this year but finished it well. It just goes to show that anything can and will happen in the racing world. I don't have any concerns for Homestead or the rest of the year. I'm just looking for the races to get here. We are going to run our race and work hard at it. The competition is very tough and I am looking ahead to the challenge. I couldn't ask for a better team or co-driver to do it with.” For more on AASCO Motorsports and its 2004 Grand-Am Rolex Series effort please visit www.aascomotorsports.com. ###
