Craig Stanton Announces the End of Rolex Series Team

LONG BEACH, Calif., July 21, 2004 Craig Stanton, of Long Beach, Calif., announced today that AASCO Motorsports, the SGS class Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series team in which he has been the lead driver, has halted operation effective immediately. The Grand Prix of Miami SGS winning team was structured with many of the sports' top professionals including: Stanton and David Murry, Cumming, Ga., driving, Dennis Aase as owner and team manager, chief engineer Harry Haggard, lead mechanic Manny Martinez, data acquisition specialist Joe Hullett and race strategist Thomas Blam. The team gelled quickly with strong team performances. The No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entry had competed in four of the first six Rolex Series races winning the SGS class at Miami and taking third at the Phoenix 250. However, financial and political issues began to hamper the team's efforts at Homestead-Miami Speedway and, despite the success, principals opted to shutter the team. Several key members of the team have already found employment with other Rolex Series operations. Stanton and Murry are collectively and separately pursuing other opportunities within the Rolex Series at this time. The driving-duo continue to compete together in the Grand-Am Cup where Stanton holds a substantial lead in the championship points chase. Stanton has won four of the first five Grand-Am Cup races including three-straight at the start of the season.Craig Stanton, “This is a really tough thing to announce but I took it upon myself to do it. When I was approached about driving for AASCO I was very excited. I had driven for Dennis before and he always put together a great team. Here I was given a chance to help hand-pick the team and we got the best in the business. I think we showed that at Daytona. But, a lot of things came together to end all of that. This was one of the best groups I have ever gotten to work with and it was a real pleasure to race with the guys. I am going to miss that. But, now, it's time to move on and see what we can make happen for the rest of this season in the Rolex Series and for next year.”For more on Craig Stanton please visit www.craigstanton.com.
