Petersen/ White Lightning to Grid Fourth in Canada

BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Can., Aug. 7, 2004 � Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing's David Murry took advantage of his preference for the American Le Mans Series' (ALMS) “enhanced” qualifying format to take fourth on the GT grid for tomorrow's Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport. Murry piloted the No. 31 Westward Ho Casino/ MMPIE/ PAWS/ Michelin Porsche 911 GT3 RSR to a lap of one minute, 19.378 second lap around the Mosport International Raceway in the qualifying format that allowed each driver four laps (an out-lap, two hot laps and an in-lap) on a clear race track. As the team and Michelin engineers planned, the tires came up to proper air pressure and temperature on the first of Murry's two hot laps allowing the Cumming, Georgia resident to set the team's fastest time of the weekend. He held the pole until late in the GT cars' time on the track where he was bumped by three other Porsches on Michelin tires.Murry will start the Michael Petersen-owned Porsche in tomorrow's two hour, 45-minute sprint race. As he did at the most recent ALMS race, Long Beach, California's Craig Stanton will take-over driving chores from Murry at, approximately, the race's midpoint. In the Portland event, as it has three times this season, the Petersen/ White Lightning Porsche came home with a third-place finish after an exhilarating battle for the top three spots.David Murry: “It went great. We kept working on the car and getting faster and faster. It was the best lap we had done all weekend. It put us forth, not good enough but the race is a different story. I think we have a really good race car. We can do those laps all day long. I am looking forward to tomorrow. Hopefully we can bring home a win for the Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing Porsche.”Craig Stanton: “We are pretty optimistic about the race. It is going to be pretty challenging, I believe. This is a very fast track. I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised with how things turn out tomorrow. Traffic is going to be a real issue.
