Otto Motorsports Heads for Classic Road Atlanta Event - High Speeds and Emotion Set Stage for Walter Mitty Challenge

BRASELTON, Ga., April 24, 2006 The Classic Motorsports Magazine Walter Mitty Challenge is one of the premier historic events in all of the world. Road Atlanta is a dauntingly fast 2.54-mile road course that follows the valleys and hills just north of Atlanta. Edgar Otto knows them both well and is ready to challenge for his first Historic Sports Car Racing Series (HSR) event win at the Braselton, Ga. track this weekend. The 76 year-old from Boca Raton, Fla. will pilot his No. 17 UrAssist “Freedom to Go” Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the Historic Stock Car Division for Late Model Stock Cars (internally known as Group Eight) in two races beginning with a Saturday qualifying race that will set the grid for Sunday afternoon's feature event. The track, nestled in the beautiful foothills of the north Georgia mountains, will see the highest speeds that the HSR cars will hit on a natural terrain road course this season. And, of the multiple classes, the stock car class- with entries brought from the NASCAR's NEXTEL Cup and Busch Grand National Series- are among the fastest throughout the all-road course series. The speed brings the challenge that Otto, a successful entrepreneur and son of NASCAR founding father Ed Otto, Sr., seeks from racing.“Road Atlanta is the fastest track I'll run all year,” said Otto. “We'll touch 170 [miles per hour] just before braking at the end of the long, back-straightaway. It's an all-around extremely challenging course. It's why I race. You are never more alive than when you are on the edge of disaster. I've had my share of thrills in those blueberry hills.”The most difficult portion of the track is the rise just before the sweeping, downhill corner onto the front-straightaway.“The area is unique because you can achieve weightlessness,” said Otto. “The drop-off is so steep it is almost as if the car is levitating. That is one of the toughest sections of track that the HSR will run. You have to keep your eyes on the horizon and put the accelerator to the floor. Then you have that fast right-hander with the hard concrete wall beckoning to you off to your left. It's a challenge between you and self preservation.”Edgar Otto will be joined on the track by his Otto Motorsports' teammates; son Wayne (Watchung, NJ.) in the No. 144 1999 Chevy Lumina and Pierre Mulacek's No. 25 2001 Chevrolet Coupe. The trio took first (Wayne Otto), fourth (Edgar Otto) and sixth (Mulacek) in the season-opening Sebring Endurance Challenge feature last time out. The Ottos are the only father-son pairing in the Historic Stock Car class.Otto Motorsports three cars will hit the track for official practice on Friday, April 28 with a 10:55 AM (ET) and a 4:05 PM practice. Qualifying for the first race is set for Saturday, April 29 at 10:55 AM. The final standings from that event will set the grid for Sunday's 3:10 PM 30-minute feature.
