Lux and White Each Take Salt Lake Race Win - Vipers Overcome Ferrari and Corvettes to Take Seventh and Eighth Victories of 2006, Pacific Rac

TOOELE, Utah, May 31, 2006 NayKid Racing drivers Cindi Lux (Aloha, Ore.) and Scotty B. White (Puyallup, Wash.) broke the seal on the spectacular new Miller Motorsports Park this weekend with two, one-two finishes in the double race weekend. The two KUMHO Tires/ Dodge Motorsports/ SRT Viper SRT10s went head-to-head with the world's best sports car and, again, Dodge's V10-powered Viper bested the competition from Ferrari's 360 Challenge and Chevrolet's venerable Corvette. The Salt Lake City-area track played host to the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Touring One (T1) class for events on both Saturday and Sunday. It was NayKid Racing's first visit to the track. In Saturday's event, White took the top-spot while Lux pushed him home in second. On day-two, the roles were reversed as Lux took the pole position and led to the checkered flag. White was inches away at the finish line in a rain-soaked race. It was the fifth time in 12 races this season that Lux and White have taken the top-two steps of the podium. In the May 27th event, the true competition of the T1 class showed through as the newly entered Ferrari 360 Challenge took the pole position on the 2.183-mile, 12-turn, West Course at Miller Motorsports Park. White ran the second-quickest time in Saturday's qualifying session while Lux battled an unusual and unexplained overheating problem to sixth on the grid. The race turned-out to be the barnburner that qualifying suggested it would be. White's No. 3 KUMHO Tires/ Dodge Motorsports/ SRT/ CORSA Exhaust/ Red Line Oil Dodge Viper SRT10 battled with the Ferrari for a handful of laps before pulling clear of the mid-engined Italian exotic. Meanwhile, Lux, who was still not certain if the overheating problem would return, sliced through traffic seeing the battle for the lead for the first time on lap seven. With White now well away from the Ferrari, Lux drew her sights on the second-place newcomer and, with three laps to go, took over the number two spot in her No. 78 KUMHO Tires/ Dodge Motorsports/ SRT/ Nike/ MOMO USA/ Forgeline Viper. The one-two finish gave NayKid Racing its seventh race win of the season, the fifth for White.“We waited out the Ferrari's speed,” recounted White. “American ingenuity and craftsmanship won out. The Ferrari was fast and the Corvettes set the fastest race lap. But, we managed to squeak out a win. We were able to take a one-two with Cindi right on my bumper. That was a good race, a fun race.”“The bar has totally been raised in the world of racing at Miller Motorsports Park,” said Lux. “This track is incredible. My car had some serious mechanical issues that really put me in a challenging position for the first race. But Fred [Lux, crew chief] and the team worked hard and found the problem. I just put my head down and worked through some traffic. The Ferrari is one light and fast race car. It was great racing against it!!” Now with the overheating issues resolved, Lux turned the fastest time of the weekend in qualifying for the second race. Her lap of one minute, 1:36.9 seconds bettered that of the Ferrari from the day before to set a track record. White was close behind in second with a 1:37.1. The Ferrari and two Corvettes fell into lock-step on their heels. Lux led from the pole with White close behind fending-off the challenges of the Ferrari and the Corvettes. However, the challenges were not only coming from the competitors but Mother Nature as well when it started to rain. The unusual desert downpour played into the hands of the Northwest-based team. The combination of the rain-savvy drivers and KUMHO's 710 tire set the bar high for all the other makes. Lux and White would lap the entire field of cars in the soaking conditions handily taking the top two steps on the podium again for Race Two. It was Lux's third win of '06.“In the second race, all I can say was it was wild!” offered Lux. “Started out about halfway dry and then the skies opened up. It was insane wet! I think Scotty and I traded the lead seven to eight times in the last few laps. I think we drove our whole team, but especially our crew chief, crazy with how hard we ran in the rain! It's so cool to have the confidence to run so hard with your competitor/teammate.”“Cindi led from pole for about five or six laps,” reviewed White. ”Then I passed in turn four and led for about eight laps until getting pinned by lappers. Cindi went by taking the lead for another four or five laps then the rain started. The Viper was awesome. The KUMHOs absolutely destroyed everyone on a damp track. We lapped every single car on the track. Every car; T1, GT-1, GT-2, every car on the track,” White continued. The success of the weekend places Lux firmly in the lead of the Northern Pacific (NorPac) Division of the T1 class. White, who has been on a mission to recapture his lead in the Southern Pacific (SoPac) Division after a slow start to the season, inched closer to his sixth-consecutive division title with the victory on Saturday. The two black and neon orange Dodge Vipers will now take the challenge back to the Northwest. This time, the event will be in White's backyard at the Kent, Wash-area Pacific Raceway. The 2.25-mile, 10-turn road course will play host to another double-header weekend for NayKid Racing on Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday June 4th. The tree-lined facility is best recognized by its sweeping turns that are predominately left-handers. The course should suit the V10-power and world beating braking of America's most popular supercar, the Dodge Viper.
