Shane Lewis Gets Social in Germany
Professional Race Driver Debuts Social Media Effort at Nürburgring 24
NÜRBURG, GERMANY - June 22, 2011 – Shane Lewis is getting social in Germany this week. Lewis, who has raced every major class of sports car in every major international series during his career, has launched the official Facebook® and Twitter® social media outlets for Shane Lewis Racing and his “Go Shane Go” fan organization. Followers can find Lewis on Twitter @GoShaneGo and can “Friend” the Jupiter, FL-resident on FaceBook at Shane Lewis - Athlete. The two new social media outlets join Lewis’s web site (www.ShaneLewis.com) as well as the established, Shane Lewis Racing, YouTube® video channel (www.YouTube.com/ShaneLewisRacing). All social media outlets are currently available to the public.
Lewis will use the platform of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring to offer followers and friends an opportunity to see “inside” the world’s most demanding endurance race, June 25-26. Without major television coverage in North America, the pursuit to find information on the 39th Running of the Zurich 24 Hours of Nürburgring can be challenging. Lewis, who will be making his 30th career 24 hour race start on Saturday, will provide “behind the visor” insight into the multiple aspects and challenges that are required of a driver and a team. Want to know what it’s like inside the No. 73 Götz Motorsports Audi RS-4 at speed? Who better to tell you than a winner from last year’s race! How can a driver “learn” the 15.753-mile (25.359 km) long course and its 73-turns? Lewis knows it all the way to the podium! What is it like to race against as many as 250 cars and up to 1000 drivers on the Nordschleife? Go to the source! These, and much more, are all things that Lewis will give insight on his Twitter and Facebook posts.
Lewis, who is followed the world-over by his devoted “Turn 10” supporters with the now famous “Go Shane Go” banner, will be starting his fourth, career 24 Hours of Nürburgring. He shares the Götz Motorsports Audi with Vic Rice (San Rafael, CA) and Germans Axle Duffner and Christian Kolhaus. The first official practice day for the multi-time American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am Rolex Series race winner begins at 2:30 PM (CET), June 23. Four hours of practice/qualifying will be held later that day starting at 7:30 PM. Two additional hours of qualifying will begin on Friday, June 24 at 4:55 PM with final warm-up scheduled for 1 PM race day. The clock will begin counting towards 24 hours at 4 PM Saturday, June 25.

Shane Lewis
About launching his social media effort while racing at Nürburgring: “The timing really couldn’t be better! This is something we have discussed for a long time but, for whatever reason, it just kept getting pushed to the backburner. As word started to leak out that I was going to defend my 2010 win at the Nürburgring 24 with Götz Motorsports, people kept asking how they could follow things over in Germany. I thought about it awhile and said: ‘man, this is the right time to do this’! I am really excited that, for the first time, I’ll be able to communicate right now with everyone back in the States about what’s happening in Germany! This is going to be cool!”
About what he will be “Tweeting” and Posting to Facebook: “Nürburgring is just such an amazing event. It really is a one-of-a-kind place. It’s hard to put into words but I’m hoping I can put it into 140 characters or less! I just want people – family, friends, fans, casual observers – to get a taste of what this race is all about and why it means so much to me. I’m just going to tell people what I am doing, what I see, and what I think is cool. I’m hoping we’ll make not only a lot more Shane Lewis fans at the end of the weekend, but a lot more students of endurance sports car racing.”
