Selling Points: Bryan Sellers September Updates

Bryan Sellers Top-Four at COTA - Ready for Rennsport - FlatSixes

Braselton, Georgia, September 20, 2015 – This inaugural edition of “Selling Points”, news on TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race-winning driver Bryan Sellers, reviews the significant moments of the second-half of the month of September. Sellers, of Braselton, Georgia, is a Falken Tire factory driver with six major sports car wins to his credit including this year’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International.

Sellers Takes TUDOR Championship Checkered Flag at COTA in Fourth-Place

Some days Bryan Sellers is given direction to go ring everything out of the No. 17 Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 RSR. Other days, the Braselton, Georgia-resident is told to ring out every ounce of fuel. The Lone Star Le Mans on September 19 was a fuel conservation day. Starting fifth in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class, Wolf Henzler (Germany) sprinted to the front putting up a spectacular battle with the Porsche factory team for the lead of the two-hour, 40-minute TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. When the field pitted, Sellers took over driving chores, re-entering the race in sixth-place. Taking advantage of the strong Falken Tires, a second caution flag gave the lone privately-entered Porsche 911 RSR in the field a new approach: the team would conserve fuel attempting to finish the race without another pit stop. Sellers used every trick in his significant arsenal to conserve fuel while simultaneously moving up to fourth-place at the checkered flag. While not as much fun as the racing Henzler was doing at the front of the field in the first-half of the race, Sellers’ work proved the perfect complement gaining the team another top-five finish entering the last race of the year, Petit Le Mans, on October 3.

On the Lone Star Le Mans: “This is one of those races where my teammate got to do all of the fun stuff. Wolf’s assignment was to move us up as far and as fast as he could. He did a perfect job getting all the way up to the lead. My job, in the second-half of the race, was to keep us there while saving as much fuel as we could. Team Falken Tire made the strategic decision to be one of only three cars to make just one stop. After the second caution, it was a full-on fuel conservation run. Definitely not as much fun but it was the best way to ensure we took a top-five finish. We bettered that coming home fourth in the Falken Porsche 911 RSR. I am really proud of the effort of the whole team!”

Porsche Family Reunion

As the only non- Porsche factory driver asked to race the Porsche 911 RSR in North America, Bryan Sellers has been given a great deal of responsibility within the Porsche Motorsport family. This week, September 25-27, Sellers has been given the honor of participating in Rennsport Reunion V, the fifth gathering of Porsche motorsports enthusiasts from around the world. The invitation, from Falken Tire and Porsche, will reunite the eight-year Falken works driver with the 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR he and Wolf Henzler (Germany) co-drove to their second-consecutive Grand Prix of Baltimore GT victory. The three-day Porsche racing extravaganza at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California brings together hundreds of vintage and current Porsche race cars and dozens of legendary Porsche personalities. Beyond his time lapping the unmistakable livery of the Falken Tire Porsche, Sellers will participate in a one-hour autograph session beginning at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time (PT) on Saturday, September 26.

On Rennsport Reunion V: “It is a huge honor to get to attend Rennsport V as a guest of Porsche and Falken Tire. With no disrespect to any other Porsche event, this is the one that you most want to be invited to take part in! To be included in the legend that is Porsche motorsport is pretty overwhelming. I am looking forward to turning laps in the 2012 Falken Tire Porsche 911 GT3 RSR again but, to be honest, I can’t wait for the autograph session! I feel like I should be on the other side of the table when I see the names of drivers who will be signing with me! It is a who’s-who of Porsche history.”

Up On the Wheel

Earlier this season Bryan Sellers was asked to pen a blog for the leading Porsche-centric web site in North America, www.FlatSixes.com.
