Braselton, Georgia. Porsche has swept all championship categories in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championships’ top class, GTP, with the Porsche 963. IMSA’s winningest brand also added the full array of GTD Pro class championship trophies with the venerable 911 GT3 R racer.

The German sports car maker used second and third place finishes in the Petit Le Mans season finale to lock the Manufacturers’ championship by 91 points. The 10-hour endurance race at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta also secured the Team championship title for the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport and the GTP Drivers’ championship for teammates Dane Cameron (Huntersville, North Carolina) and Felipe Nasr (Brazil). Their factory effort teammates Mathieu Jaminet (France) and Nick Tandy (United Kingdom) drove the No. 6 Porsche hybrid prototype to second in the Team and Drivers’ championship to secure a one-two season finish for the program.

In addition to securing the Manufacturer championship for Porsche, AO Racing fought to the closing seconds of the final race of the season to hoist the GTD Pro class Team trophy over the No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R affectionately known as “Rexy”. With three race wins during the season, Laurin Heinrich (Germany) was awarded sole ownership of the GTD Pro Drivers’ title behind the wheel of the AO entry.
